Comparison of the pre and post game state and trait anxiety levels of individual and team athletes*

Abstract


The purpose of the present research is to determine the pre and post game state and trait anxiety levels of individual and team athletes. The research sample includes 107 females and 289 males, a total of 396 athletes from various sports (individual sports, racket sports and team sports) who participated in the games of 1999-2000 Turkey Universities Championships. In the research, a 10-item socio-demographic questionnaire and the Spielberger Trait-State Anxiety Inventory were used as data collection tools. The results of the research concluded that in terms of pre game state anxiety level those who engaged in individual sports and in terms of trait anxiety level those who engaged in team sports showed a significant difference compared to the others. There was no significant difference among the sport branches in terms of age and gender variables.
